Overview

Sholapur Airport was constructed in September 1948 by the Indian Defense Authorities, but due to lack of maintenance, the airport wasn’t operational for almost four decades. In 1987, the Public Works Department planned to make it functional again and renovated it completely. An ATR-72 service from Sholapur to Mumbai was started in February 2009. It was scheduled to operate four times a week. However, this was brought to a halt in August 2010. Past few years, this airport does not have any scheduled commercial flights taking off or landing there. On certain important occasions, the airport is used for landing flights carrying celebrities and important personalities.
